“오픈소스, 어렵지 않아요”

신정규는 오픈소스(Open Source) 개발자다. 텍스트큐브(TEXTCUBE)라는 오픈소스 블로그 프로그램을 만든 니들웍스(Needlworks)와 테터 네트워크 재단(TNF) 멤버이자 현재 아블라컴퍼니의 CSO로 일하고 있다.

오픈소스란 개발자가 단순히 자신이 만든 프로그램을 무료로 공개하는 것을 넘어 그 프로그램을 만든 기반 기술까지 전부 공개하는 것을 말한다. 이 용어가 생소한 이들조차 매일 오픈소스와 마주하고 있다. 가깝게는 스마트폰, 인터넷 공유기, 홈페이지부터 대기업에서 사용되고 있는 분산처리 시스템, 서버, 개발 언어까지 오픈소스 없는 세상은 이제 상상하기 힘들다.

그런데 이러한 오픈소스는 기여한 개발자에게 아무런 수익도 제공하지 않는다. 그럼에도 이들은 왜 오픈소스를 하고 있는 것일까?

“혹시 디아블로라는 게임을 하세요? 그거 왜 해요? 아이템을 얻고, 레벨을 올리고 그런 것을 왜 하죠? 우리도 똑같아요. 즐거우니까, 재미있으니까, 중독되니까 하는 겁니다”

“Open source, not difficult.”

Jungkyu shin is CSO of Ablar Company and a member of open source group, TNF and Niddle Works. Guess what LINUX, Firefox, Wordspread, and Textcube have in common. Yes, they are open sources. Open source is literally “opened source code program”. As some of you may already notice, it takes one more step from Free-ware structure.

When we are programming, there are two steps roughly. First, combine human-understandable programming languages. Second, translate it into computer-understandable machine language. Since it is impossible for human to make 0 and 1 consisted program, and it is inefficient, we have no choice but to make a detour. In the state that source codes are opened, people who are using common or freeware program cannot edit bugs while they are using it. It is needless to say that it is impracticable for users to embed their new ideas right away to the program. All of these leads people to “open source”.

Open source is everywhere in our life. From distributed processing to servers and developing languages used in corporates, we are subtly getting help from those kinds of open source geeks.

Buy the way, why the hell they decided to do “open source” with zero profit?

“Have you ever played the game Diablo? The reason of playing it? Getting items, upgrading their levels… Just like that. It is good fun. We keep doing it because it is fun.”

“정보 검색 서비스의 미래”

이재형은 인공지능 기술에 기반하여 혁신적인 멀티미디어 검색 서비스를 선보이고 있는 (주)엔써즈의 CTO 이다. KAIST 전산학과에서 학사, 바이오 및 뇌공학과에서 석, 박사 학위를 받았으며, 동시에 다년간의 실무를 통한 소프트웨어 개발과 대용량 시스템 구축 경험을 가지고 있다. 이종 학문간의 경계를 허물어 현실의 문제들을 해결하는 것을 목표로 하여 현재는 뇌과학, 인공지능, IT 기술의 융합을 통해 새로운 가치를 창출하는 일에 매진하고 있다.

1990년 웹의 등장과 이에 이은 웹 검색 엔진의 출현은 많은 사람들에게 그동안 개개인의 뇌와 종이에 쓰여진 정보에 한정되었던 정보 검색의 범위를 극적으로 넓혀 주었으며, 이를 통해 사회와 기술의 진보 속도는 날로 빨라지고 있다. 하지만 개개인의 뇌에 이미 습득된 정보를 검색하는 행위와 웹에서 정보를 검색하는 행위를 비교해 보면 여전히 그 편의성과 효율성 면에서 큰 차이가 나는 것을 알 수 있다. 이들 차이가 어떤 한계점에서 기인했는지에 대해 생각해 보는 것은 미래의 정보 검색 서비스가 나아갈 방향에 대해 많은 점을 시사해 준다.

(주)엔써즈는 이상적인 정보 검색 서비스를 현실로 옮기기 위한 첫 단계로써, 키워드 연상 -> 입력 -> 결과 정제로 이어지는 복잡한 기존의 동영상 검색 절차를 거치지 않고 브라우저 창의 이미지와 연관된 동영상을 자동으로 인식하여 클릭 한 번으로 바로 얻을 수 있는 이미디오라는 브라우저 플러그인 기반 서비스를 최근 정식 오픈하였다. 얼핏 생각하면 단순한 기술적 진보에 지나지 않을 것으로 보이는 검색에 필요한 절차의 간소화가 어떤 방식으로 질적인 변화를 가져올 수 있으며 미래 사회에 영향을 줄 수 있는지에 대해 이야기해 보고자 한다.

“The future of information search service”

Jae hyung Lee is the CTO of ‘Enswers, Inc’, which offers innovative multimedia search service based on their artificial intelligent technology. Lee received Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. degree in Bio & Neuro-science major from KAIST. He has been involved many years in building software and the structure of a mass storage system. He aims to break down the boundaries of fields such as neuroscience, artificial intelligence, IT, etc. He wants to solve the problems in the real world, and to create a new value by converging them.

The advent of web and search engines has far broaden the possibilities and availability of information from individuals. The speed of the growth in both technology is growing faster everyday. However, it is still inefficient to find information from web compare to search information from your brain or memory. The difference is the key insight for the right direction on how ’search’ should be like.

As of the first step towards the ideal information search, Enswers has launched a service, a web plug-in, that a user can just click on an image from a browser window to find relevant video clips. This dramatically decreases the time and effort required for the current searching process, recall a keyword, type, and filter the results.

It is not just a technical achievement, but Lee is going to give a story how this change in information search paradigm can actually bring qualitative change in the society.

“서울 견문록”

올리버 그림은 독일인이다. 미디어 아티스트 겸 대학 교수. 원래는 음악을 전공하려 했지만 불의의 사고로 진학에 실패했다. 그 사이에 조각도 하고 도자기도 구워봤다. 하지만 뒤늦게 영상의 미학을 알게 된다. 복잡 다양하고 현란한 기법과 이즘이 난무하는 시대에 올리버 그림은 영상과 사운드를 공간에 맛깔나게 버무릴 줄 아는 작가다.

이 작가가 얼마 전, ‘서울 견문록’이라는 전시에서는 ‘도시’ 라는 양념을 더했다. 그는 “전통과 역사, 문화 등을 너무 쉽게 ‘갈아 엎는’ 현 한국의 세태가 안타깝다” 개발 한국에 일침을 가하면서. ‘디자인 서울’을 추구했던 서울이 도시 전체가 획일적인 아파트 단지에 불과하다”고 아쉬워 했다. 근작 ‘Looping Seoul 2012′가 도시 서울의 이미지를 단적으로 보여준다.

그는 자신이 바라본 서울의 이미지를 가지고 새로운 그림을 그려낸다. 서울 곳곳을 돌아다니며 ‘뉴타운’개발로 인해 나타난 낯선 광경에 자신만의 방식으로 의문을 재기하는 것이다. 아파트와 빌딩의 창문만을 담은 영상이 반복적으로 재생 시킴으로써 도시의 몰개성과 익명성을 드러낸다. 무분별한 개발정책, 부동산, 아파트 문화, 그리고 옛 것과 새 것이 공존 못하는 ‘기억을 잃어 가는 도시’ 서울. 이 남자가 바라보는 시선이 외국인이라 특별하다는 것이 아니다. 작품을 통해 당당하게 소리 칠 수 있기 때문이다.

그래서 그의 작품은 가능한 모든 감각과 방법으로 우리에게 말한다. 그가 꿈꾸는 “옛것의 토대 위에 현재가 만들어지는, 역사가 살아있는 서울”을.

“Description of the city, Seoul”

Oliver Griem is German and he is part media artist, part professor of arts. He could have majored in fine arts had it not been for the abrupt tragedy that came in the way. He dabbled in sculpture and pottery. But alas, he discovered the beauty and science behind visual media. In a world overflowing with complicated and elaborate technology and ideologies, he get its right as he blends the visual with the aural.

He recently contributed his flair at the exhibition, “Travelogue from Seoul.” He regrets the current state of Korea’s casual ease in trading away tradition, history and culture. He is saddened to see Seoul, “the city of design,” only end up a gigantic apartment complex. His most recent work “Looping Seoul 2012″ shows the Seoul through his lens.

He brings out a new portrait of Seoul as seen through his eyes. He poses heavy questions as to where Seoul went in this suddenly foreign town. His installation plays repeated images of apartment buildings and windows in order to show increasingly impersonal city of anonymity. Indiscriminate development, real estate, and apartment lifestyle are what now comprises this amnesiac city that no longer remembers its past. His view is unique and praiseworthy not because it is that of a foreigner but rather it declares with confidence of findings through his works.

So his pieces convey the idea of his dream of Seoul where the present moments are built upon the oldest memories with history being alive in every parts of the city.

“의상에 대한 가치를 넓히다. 의상에 가해진 새로운 기술 패러다임과 그 확장성”

오승우는 이 세상 모든 의상을 3차원으로 디지털화하고 이렇게 나온 융합 의상 콘텐츠를 유통하는 온라인 마켓플레이스를 만들어 나가고 있는 “클로 버추얼패션”의 대표다. 2009년 회사를 창업하기 전 KAIST 전산학과에서 학사, 석사, 박사 학위를 받으면서 옷의 사실적인 움직임을 컴퓨터로 계산할 수 있는 “의상 시뮬레이션”에 대한 연구를 수행했다.

논문으로 그치는 연구가 아닌 보다 의미있고 가치 있는 일 – 디지털 의상 유통을 통한 새로운 가치 창출 – 을 하고자 회사를 창업했다. 목표 달성을 위한 첫번째 단계로 사실적인 의상을 3차원으로 디자인할 수 있는 소프트웨어를 개발 상용화하였다. 현재 세계적인 패션회사, “반지의 제왕”과 “아바타”로 유명한 Weta Digital과 같은 CG Studio들, “어쎄신 크리드”를 만든 UBISoft와 같은 게임 회사들을 필두로 전세계 2만명의 회사, 학교, 개인 유저들이 이 소프트웨어를 사용하고 있다. 단순히 좋은 소프트웨어, 좋은 서비스 개발이 아닌 의상 제작및 유통 역사의 한 페이지를 장식하기 위해 30명의 동료들과 함께 열심히 달려나가고 있다.

“New paradigm of technology and possibility on clothing”

Seungwoo Oh, a CEO of CLO virtual fashion, is the leading online marketplace maker especially on 3D digitalized fashion design. While studying data processing in KAIST, his main research work was the computer-based simulation on calculating movement of clothing.

He would like to bring his works more than just as a graduate paper in a way of contributing to the world – creating value through digitalized-fashion industry. On his own company, CLO Virtual, one of his various attempts was developing and releasing the 3D fashion design software. Including world-famous Computer graphic studios and game makers such as Weta Digital, the CG maker of Avatar and The Lord of the Ring, and UBISoft of the worldwide popular mobile game, Assassins Creed Revelations, thousands of users from various groups are using this software of CLO virtual.

His mission is not only developing well-made software or sounds service-design for customers but making revolution on the fashion industry. With his 30 true people, he is in the middle of adventure everyday even today.

“인디는 스스로 미디어가 되고 통로가 되어야 한다.”

본명보다 별명인 ‘곰사장’으로 더 많이 알려지고 있는 고건혁은 인디레이블 ‘붕가붕가레코드’의 대표이다. 장기하와 얼굴들, 술탄오브더디스코, 눈뜨고코베인 등이 활동하고 있는 이 음반 제작사는 ‘개나 고양이가 봉제인형이나 사람의 다리를 붙잡고 자위를 하는 행동’이라는 의미의 붕가붕가라는 이름에 이미 인디음반제작사로서의 철학이 녹아있다. 장기하와 얼굴들의 성공 이후에도 그의 음반제작사 대표로서의 자세는 변하지 않고 있다.

자신들이 하고 싶은 음악을 즐기면서 살아남을 수 있는 생태계를 위해 고민했던 그는, 2010년의 TEDxSeoul 2회 행사에서 ‘지속가능한 딴따라질을 위해 지금 필요한 것은 현실을 바라볼 수 있는 비관적인 낙관, 그리고 확신없는 자기긍정’이라고 이야기 했다. 이후 장기하와 얼굴들을 중심으로 여러 아티스트들의 기반을 만들기 위해 인디 음악의 팬 층을 확장할 수 있는 비즈니스 모델을 시도해왔고, TEDxSeoul 4회 행사에 앞서 5월 중순에 제주 출신의 음악인들과 함께 Great Escape Tour라는 이름으로 공연과 강연이 접목된 형태의 멀티 페스티벌을 기획하고 있다.

“인디는 공연을 통해 대중을 만납니다. 메이저가 미디어에 한계를 느껴 외국 시장에 진출하듯 인디의 문제는 공연이 홍대에 집중되어 있다는 것이죠. 4000만 인구 중 홍대 앞에 오는 사람은 극히 한정되어 있고, 더 이상 인디음악을 알리는 창구로 삼기 어렵습니다. 결국 찾아가야 하는 겁니다. 제주 출신 음악인들 및 제주 기반의 기업들과 함께 제주 공연을 기획하고 있습니다. 적자를 감수해야 하지만 그런 작업을 통해 홍대, 서울, 수도권에서 벗어나야 하고, 그게 바로 메이저와 차별화되게 인디로서의 돌파구를 만드는 방법입니다. 스스로 미디어가 되고 통로가 되어야 합니다.”

“Indie, in itself should be the medium and the door”

The head of the Boonga-Boonga Record is better known by his nickname chairman Gom (bear) rather than by his real name. The label employs many talented artists like Jang Gi-ha and faces, Sultan of the Disco, Nun Ddeugo Kobain. The label is named after a phrase with unknown origin which means “an animal dry humping a stuffed animal or a person’s leg,” which comprises the label company’s philosophy. His commitment is steadfast and consistent despite of much success he’s enjoyed since Jang Gi-ha and faces.

He contemplated on how to make ends meet while doing the type of music that he wants. In 2010, at the second TEDxSeoul, he talked of the “necessity of pessimistic optimism and baseless self-assertion for a sustainable buffoonery.” He has tried a business model with Jang Gi-ha and faces and other artists in order to secure the support of the Indie music fan base. Also ahead of the fourth TEDxSeoul, he is currently planning a festival entitled “Great Escape Tour” with various artists from Jeju Island.

“Indie meets the audience through concerts. Major artists, who felt the limitations of a media and went out onto the global stage, show us the problems of over concentration of performances in Hongik University area. Of the 40 million living in Korea, those who make it to Hongdae are quite limited and so Hongdae can no longer be a sufficient venue to spread Indie music. We have to go seek it elsewhere. I’m currently in the process of putting up a concert in Jeju with Jeju native artists. It may result in a loss at first but only through such projects we can branch out from Hongdae and the capital. That’s the only way to break through as Indie music. Indie, in itself should be the medium and outlet.”

“최자와 개코니까”

다이나믹 듀오는 대한민국 가수다. 그들이 하는 음악은 힙합이지만 대한민국에서는 어차피 가요임을 그들도 인정한다. 다이나믹 듀오가 돌아왔다. 3년만이다. 뒤 늦게 병장 달고. 그들이 어딘지 좀 달라졌다. 동네 형이었는데 이제는 어른이란다. 순탄치 않은 길도 걸어왔다. 너무 오래 전 일이지만 말이다. “난 원래 연습벌레 마이크로폰 앞에 서면 난 아직 설레. 난 갈래 절대 안 된다고 하는 길 나 끝까지 갈래” 이렇게 고집도 있다. 한때의 아픔도 그들은 “좀 먹는 암세포 반 고흐의 귀처럼 도려내” 버렸다. 이는 스스로와의 어떤 한계점과의 싸움으로부터 얻어질 수 있는 승리였을지 모른다.

이들은 아메바 컬쳐 소속사 대표다. “나이는 갓 서른 외제차를 끄는 또래에 비해서 기름값 걱정을 덜하는 주변사람들의 질투가 좀 심할” 줄 알았지만 이제는 여유를 넘어 관록마저 느껴진다. 4월에는 미주공연도 했다. 공연이 끝은 끝이되 끝이 아닌 아직 다 보여주지 못한 것들이 이들에게는 너무 많다. 감추고 있다. 그렇다. 이들은 최자와 개코니까.

“because they are none other than ChoiZa and GaeKo”

Dynamic Duo are Korean duo artists. Their genre is hip hop but in Korea their widely received music is considered somewhat of a pop music. They’ve returned after a 3-year hiatus from compulsory military service. And there is something different about them; they are no longer the adolescent men that they were but rather real men, all grown up. The path to comeback has been neither easy nor short. They show resolve through rapping, “I’m a practice maniac and when i rap i still get cardiac. I will insist on the discouraged way, and I will persist and never sway.” They have cast away pain like “removing cancer cells like Van Gogh did his ear.” This is perhaps victory only to be gained after a long fight against the impossible.

They are now owners of the label Amoeba Culture Records. They are barely 30 but are living the sweet life though not ostentatiously displaying as so. They even have the indulgent, relaxed air of a seasoned veteran. They returned recently from their tour in the U.S. in April. They have put up quite a performance through while touring, but they still got much to show. Yes, because they are none other than ChoiZa and GaeKo.

“내가 생각하는 세계화”

황두진은 동네 건축가, 한옥건축가이다. 2002년부터 경복궁 옆 서촌에 정착하고 반경 2km 내 주요 프로젝트를 진행하고 있다. 서울대와 예일대에서 현대건축을 공부한 황두진은 한옥 리노베이션 프로젝트에 참여하게 되면서 한옥과 관계를 맺고 한국의 대표적인 ‘현대 한옥’ 건축가로 자리 잡고 있다. 무무헌, 열린책들 사옥, 춘원당, 가회헌, 한강교량 쉼터, 갤러리 아트사이트 등 그의 건축은 현대 건축, 전통 한옥 그리고 전통과 현대가 만나는 건축물을 설계해 나간다. 이러한 경험들을 묶어 <한옥이 돌아왔다> 라는 책을 썼다. 그의 서촌 사무실의 사유 개방공간(private owned public space)인 ‘목련홀’ 에서는 영추포럼이라는 사랑방 행사가 어느새 48회째 진행되어 오고 있다.

황두진은 지난 2009년 1회 TEDxSeoul에서, ‘여러분은 어디서 출발하고 계십니까? 그리고 여러분의 한국은 무엇입니까?’라는 질문을 던지며 지금 한국이 놓여있는, 한국만의 정체성에 대한 이야기를 했다.

그가 말하는 현대와 과거를 모두 품고 있는 21세기형 인간형은 한국뿐 아니라 세계의 많은 국가들도 공통적으로 가지고 있는 것이다. 지난 TEDxSeoul의 장에서는 한국이라는 상황의 특수성과 가능성을 이야기 했다면 이번 장에서는 이 지역성이 주변으로 확장, 보편성을 획득하는 과정에 주목하고자 한다.

“My Version of Globalization”

Doojin Hwang is a village architect and hanok (traditional Korean house) architect. Since 2002, he has settled down in Seochon, an area right next to Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul, leading major projects taking place within 10 km radius in his neighborhood. After his studies in modern architecture at Seoul National University and Yale University, Hwang was first introduced to hanok by joining a hanok renovation project and now he is recognized as a representative hanok architect of Korea. His portfolio ranges from modern to traditional architecture as well as a combination of the two; Mumuheon, Open Books Publishing office building, Choonwondang, Gahoeheon, Han River Bridge rest area, and Gallery Artside are some good examples. His experience with hanok was made into a book, Hanok Is Back (2007), written by the architect himself. At Mokryun Hall, a private owned public space of his Seochon office, a sarangbang (lit. reception room in a hanok house for male guests) event called Yeongchu Forum has been held for its 48th time.

At the first TEDxSeoul held in 2009, Hwang talked about a unique Korean identity of today throwing a question – ‘Where are you starting from? And what is your Korea?’

A 21st century-type man who embraces both the traditional and modern exists not only in Korea, but also and of course in other countries across the world. If Hwang talked about distinct characteristics of the situation of Korea and its potential, this time he gives attention to the progress of the local expanding beyond boundaries and achieving universality

“관객과 극장주가 함께 만들어가는 진짜 UX 디자인의 공간”

김은주는 현재 국내에서 가장 높은 점유율, 매회 매진을 기록하는 극장이자 최초의 시니어 전용극장인 ‘허리우드 시네마’를 운영하는 최연소 극장장이다. 김은주는 영화계에서 독특한 이력을 가지고 있는 사람이기도 하다. 영화 기획사에서 영화와의 인연을 시작, 지금은 허물어진 80년된 ‘스카라’ 극장 운영을 통해 이윤도 만들어 보았다. 이후 그녀는 여전히 옛 극장과 옛 영화들과 인연을 맺고 있다. 현재 그녀가 운영하는 허리우드 클래식과 서대문 아트홀(구 화양극장)은 국내 최초 실버영화관으로서 노인분들을 위한 문화 공간이다. 300석 규모의 단곤 극장에 연 20만명이 찾는다. 8개관 멀티플렉스 영화관에 연간 30만영이 찾는 것을 감안하면 대단한 수치다. 김은주 대표의 “머리로 셈하지 말고 가슴으로 일하자” 경영철학은 극장의 디자인과 운영을 어르신의 눈높이에 맞춘 서비스 디자인을 가능하게 했다. 이 극장은 모두 55세 이상의 어르신들이 직접 운영하고 있다. 추억의 DJ부스, 저렴한 관람료, 국화빵 서비스, 다시 보고싶은 옛 영화 모두 극장장과 관객이 함께 커뮤니케이션 해가면서 만들어온 진짜 UX 디자인의 공간이다. 그녀는 내년에 영화를 넘은 다른 문화 컨텐츠로 어르신들과 다른 세대가 공유할 수 있는 또다른 공간을 구상중이다.

“어르신들과 세상을 이야기하고 소통하는 공간 자체를 만든 것 자체가 의미있다고 생각합니다. 여기에는 경제적 세법이 개입된다고 생각하지 않아요. 마음만이 들어갔을 뿐이에요. 모든것이 최첨단으로 꼭 가야할 필요가 있다고 생각하지 않습니다. 누구에게든 그들에게 가장 행복한 컨텐츠가 맞춰서 나눠지고 공유되는 게 중요하죠. 그것을 가능하게 하는게 문화의 힘이라고 생각해요.”

“대한민국이 이제는 우리가 찾아야할 이름을 찾아야할 단계라고생각해요. 초고령사회에서 가장 현명한 국가가 되었으면 합니다. 이곳에 정과 효가 아직도 살아있다고 믿어요. 그런 나라가 되기위한 무형의 준비가 되어있잖아요.”

“True space of the arts created in collaboration of the audience and the theater company”

Kim Eun-joo is the youngest-ever owner of a theater that sold out every performance ever put up and currently takes up the largest market share in Korea. She also has a unique resume in the movie industry. She started her affair with cinema at a production company and she clinched profit from La Scala from the 1980s. She still keeps in close contact with film industry insiders to this day. Her current theater projects Huhleewood Classic Theater (play at words combining the word Hollywood with the Korean word “Huhlee” which means one’s lower back in order to convey the body part most affected by arthritis) and Westgate Arts Center which are the nation’s first-ever “silver” theater dedicated to seniors. Close to 200,000 visit this 300-seat theater per year. Considering there are about 300,000 people using a multiplex center with eight theaters, it is an impressive box office feat. Her business motto, “Work with your heart not calculate with your head,” allowed the business to offer service to the elder at an eye-to-eye level. This theater is currently run by the elderly of ages 55 and over. There are antique DJ booth, affordable ticket price, old school snacks and the good old classics from the past are all implemented by suggestions and help from the audience. She is now researching into another cultural space that crosses the generation gap and aim to bring generations together.

“I think it is meaningful just to have a space to communicate about the world with the elderly. There is no profiteering involved in this process, simply the will to share. I don’t think everything has to be high-tech and modern. A tailor-made contents that make individuals happy and those shared is the important thing. I think that is the power of culture.

“Korea has to find its niche. We can go from the country with high life expectancy to the country with the highest level of wisdom. I believe there still is love and filial piety left in our society. We are prepared by any means to be just that.”

“I am incredibly happy these days. Our patrons bring us rice cake, fresh fruits and even homemade kimchi. I don’t believe there are too many places where theater goers come by eager to share food and talk. We are starting our own tradition here.”

“공정 주거를 디자인하다”

이재준은 디자이너이다. 건축과 실내환경디자인을 전공하였으나 보이는 것 보다 보이지 않는 것을 디자인하는 과정에 더 많은 관심을 두고 있으며, 도시와 함께 공존共存하며, 사회 안에서 공유共有하고, 예술을 통해 공감共感하고자 하는 디자인 철학을 바탕으로 전시, 공공예술, 인테리어, 출판등 다양한 분야의 작업을 시도하며 디자인의 유,무형적 가치에 관해 탐구하고 있다.

그는 최근 윤리적 건축의 실현을 목표로 공정주거 시스템 개발을 위한 ‘새동네프로젝트’를 진행한다. 플랫폼의 가치를 가진 서비스 디자인의 실천적 방안을 연구하고 있다. 극단적 수익만 추구하는 지금의 부동산 시스템을 집도하려 나선 것이다. 이 연구는 한국 부동산의 특이성과 서브 프라임사태라는 글로벌 이슈를 같은 선상에 놓고 바라본다. 이것이 독보적이고 탁월하다고 극찬을 하지는 않겠다. 다만 그의 언어에는 특유의 리듬이 있고 이 속에서 온전한 실존 세계를 예리하게 지적한다.

“Designing fair Housing”

Jaejun Lee is a designer. While he majored in architecture and interior environmental design, Lee is rather more interested in designing the invisible than visible things; motivated by his design philosophy – coexistence with city, sharing within the society, and communicating though art – he has been working in diverse fields including visual art, public art, interior design, and publication exploring the tangible and intangible values of design.

Recently he is under the “Sae-dong-ne(New Community) Project, ” a project on fair housing system development, which aims for ethical architecture. He researches on practical methods of service design, which can serve as a platform. It is an attempt to change the current real estate system and its insatiable appetite for ever greater profit. This research views the peculiarity of Korean real estate along with the subprime mortgage crisis as its global counterpart. Yet, this is not (necessarily) what makes Lee extraordinary and outstanding. Only, his language has its own unique rhythm, in which it keenly points out the existing world as it is.

Today we need good-natured architecture. Especially, at the time when public opinion is unfavorable
to the housing policies like nowadays.

“보이지 않는 것이 보이도록… 목재 재활용을 통해 삶과 세상의 쓰임을 다시 바라본다.”

안연정은 소셜 디자이너이자, 사회적기업 ‘문화로 놀이짱’ 대표이다. 오랫동안 홍대 지역을 기반으로 문화 프로젝트와 10대와 창작자들간의 문화예술교육 프로그램을 기획해왔다. 현재 그녀가 대표로 있는 ‘문화로놀이짱’은 목재 자급률은 11%, 해마다 버려지는 200만톤의 목재 중 재활용률은 3%인 현실에서, 버려지는 목재 및 재료들을 창작의 재료로 다시 사용할 후 있는 시스템을 만들고 있다. 버려지는 것들의 리메이크 디자인을 통해 소비에서 생산으로, 소유에서 공유를 실천할 수 있는 삶의 감각과 방법들을 제안하는 제품을 만들고, 마을작업장을 운영한다.

문화로놀이짱은 하고싶은 일을 하며 먹고살기 위한 지속가능성, 한정된 지구 자원을 공평하게 나눠 쓸 수 있는, 조금 더 오래 쓸 수 있는 지속가능성, 일상의 소소한 행복을 발견하고 유지하기 위한 지속가능성 등등 삶의 다양한 영역에서 마주치는 문제들을 건강하게 해결할 수 있는 지속가능한 삶의 감각과 방식을 개발하는데 관심이 있다.

“마을작업장에서 공유하는 도구들과 만들기 방법들이 버려진 재료들에서 아직 발견되지 않은 가능성, 감각들과 만나 더 재밌고, 공정하고, 건강하고, 의미있는 삶을 스스로 디자인 하며 살 수 있다면 얼마나 멋질까요? 이런 삶의 가치들이 우리 일상과 가장 밀접하게 만나는 지속가능하고 실현가능한 솔루션을 찾는 것입니다. 그리고 이 솔루션이 적용가능한 시스템을 만들어 가는 것이 문화로놀이짱이 사회적기업으로서 실현하고자하는 역할 모델입니다. 그 시작은 버려지는 목재들이었지만 이후에는 무엇과 누구와 만날지 아직 모릅니다!”

“Making the invisible visible… Wooden furniture recycling offers new perspective on life and usage.”

Ahn Yeon-jung is a social designer and the CEO of the social enterprise, “Norizzang.” (literally means ‘play with culture) She has been directing culture and art education programs in conjunction with the teen creators of cultural projects in and around the Hongik University area.

“Norizzang” implements an environmentally sustainable recycling system of discarded wood products in a reality where a meager 3% of two million tons of wooden projects are recycled. She operates a neighborly workshop where she creates a design that converts consumption to production, ownership to sharing, ultimately yielding sensible and practical products.

“Norizzang” is invested in sustainability in doing what you love, sharing the limited resources, extending the use of a given product, and discovering simply joys and source of happiness in life.

“How great would it be to find in our workshop, possibility for greatness, a possibility for fun, fair, healthy, meaningful way of living a life? These values in life allow us to find feasible and sustainable way to lead meaningful life. The model that we aim to achieve is to create a framework where such solutions can operate in a sustainable manner. It was discarded wood products that came in our conception, but we are open to embrace what comes our way!”
